About

Hello! I’m Sofia, and I create functional, ceramic art!

I’ve been creating art in every medium since I was a little girl, however my ceramic art journey didn’t start until I entered high school. That’s where my passion for working with clay really blossomed. I became fascinated with the fact that I could hold a lump of wet earth in my hand and turn it into something functional, colorful, and totally out of the ordinary.

I’m a maximalist in every way, shape, and form — and my art is no exception! I love crafting pieces that are bold and bursting with personality. There’s something irresistible about objects that wear their quirks proudly. I’ve always been drawn to the charm of stuffed animals with slightly misshapen faces — that little crooked smile or wonky eye gives them a soul, a story. It’s those imperfections that make them lovable. That’s exactly the feeling I want my work to capture: a sense of warmth, character, and connection. Each piece I make is a one-of-a-kind creation — a little quirky, a little lovable, and full of heart.

My work balances form and function, and I’m constantly exploring the line between sculpture and utility. Each piece starts with a purpose - like holding flowers or cradling small trinkets - but somewhere along the way it picks up a personality. A name, a title, a favorite hobby, every friend I create has their own backstory. They make the rooms they reside in a little more curious, a little more alive. Their existence makes you do a double take — is it art? Is it usable? The answer is yes!

While clay is my main creative language, I do occasionally wander into other materials and modes of making. Sometimes it's drawing, sometimes textiles, sometimes venturing outdoors and photographing the world around me. Stepping away from ceramics now and then helps me reset and return to the worktable with fresh eyes. These little creative detours quietly influence my ceramic work later through color choices, forms, and maybe even a mixed media piece!

I love functional art. I love art with personality. I love what I make, and I make what I love. I hope my creations bring others the same joy that they bring me!
